Youme Landowne is the author and illustrator of Selavi (That is Life), A Haitian story of Hope, Pitch Black (Don't be Skerd) and Mali Under the Night Sky, A Lao story of Home. She writes and illustrates stories addressing social justice, with a focus on children's rights, cultural literacy, and community health. Her paintings,murals and sculpture can be found in Ghana, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Haiti, and the U.S. "Working with Take Root to create this cover for my hero Shirley Chisholm, was an honor and a blessing, I am thrilled to be part of bringing her life's work to future generations!"
